When the busy wedding season comes to a close it gives us the chance to visit some venues that we haven’t had the chance to explore before, as well as meet some fantastic new suppliers. We have to confess we were rather excited when we got the call from our friends at Studio Flowers in Gourock for a meeting of creative minds at Ardgowan House, Castle and Gardens, a venue we’d heard many great things about.

Despite Chris growing up in the nearby area we had never visited and as we turned the car from the main road and wound down the forested track, we weren’t sure what to expect. Suddenly the trees opened up and we were met with the majestic Ardgowan House and its impressive surrounding gardens. It was like stepping through the screen and into Downtown or the classic setting of an Agatha Christie mystery – in fact the BBC actually used the venue in the 2018 adaptation of Ordeal by Innocence.

We were lucky enough to get a tour of the many, many rooms of the house including the reading room and the gardens (although we did this tour from a window as it was absolutely tipping it down). One of our favourite areas of the house was excitingly to be our location for the day – the rather gorgeous conservatory.

Sharon & Shona from Studio Flowers had created a stunning rustic table-centrepiece, which created a really intimate feel to the dinning experience with a wild explosion of foliage and contrasting delicate blooms. The floral decoration they provided to showcase (the mega talented) Katie at Moonbow Bakery’s creations added a pop of colour, that along with the scent (honestly our mouths were watering!) made tucking in hard to resist.

With the rain atmospherically tapping on the window panes around us, finishing touches added and champagne poured the scene was set for a rather special celebration indeed!

What a treat it was having the opportunity to explore this amazing venue and collaborate with such a creative and bloomin’ lovely bunch. We really had the very easy/joyous task of capturing the images below however it was the collective brilliance of the rest of the team that brought the magic together.

Rather than us trying to describe it any more inadequately than we already have, we hope you enjoy a selection of the images snapped on the day – maybe they will provide a little bit of inspiration for your own event… and if you have any of the team below involved? Enjoy – every – moment!

The fantastic team were:

Ardgowan House, Castle and Gardens
Described as ‘Scotland’s Downtown Abbey,’ we were kindly shown around by Daisy & Ludo. Ardgowan House has been in Ludo’s family for over 600 years! Nestled within forest near Inverkip, there are impressive views from the house across the Clyde to Arran, Bute and the Cowal Peninsula (on a day where the weather is better than we had it!). The house itself is over 200 years old and has been used as a location for multiple films and they offer guided tours too! An amazing wedding location, it offers exclusive use, a variety of ceremony locations and onsite accommodation.
Daisy and Ludo are complete visionaries and they continue to develop fresh ideas and plans for Ardgowan.

Studio Flowers
It was fantastic to work with the dynamic duo of Sharon & Shona again who done a stellar job with their rustic table centrepiece. They always absolutely NAIL it with the floral arrangements and styling! We could never describe how totally awesome this pair are so please follow them on Facebook/Instagram etc. and you’ll find yourself gushing over their creations like we do!

Moonbow Bakery
We got to meet Katie from Moonbow Bakery at this shoot and not only are do her cakes look absolutely phenomenal (and yes we got to try, they also taste AMAZING), she’s absolutely lovely too. We just need to think of an excuse to get another cake made…
